On the 3rd June 2016 I attended a TEDx conference in Glasgow.
The conference was on the theme ‘A Disruptive World’.
As 2016 Speaker Coordinator Katie McNair explains: “disruption is a really popular, trendy phrase at the moment for innovation and the bringing in of new technologies, new industries, and so on, but it’s also a word that’s traditional; it can mean destruction and chaos, but whether it be positive or negative, disruption always harnesses a new change.”
On that day, I watched a heartfelt talk by Ellis Watson D.C. Thomson:
Stop conforming; stop swiping; stop following and start participating; stop delegating progress to the other people; stop watching cats on YouTube; stop feigning happiness on a selfie for Facebook when really you’re dying inside; because you need to start living your life instead of spectating it.
Try new things for the first time; try to sketch something; try to run a mile, or just 10 metres, or whatever distance you think might be too much for you, so that when you throw yourself into it, you find you can do it after all. And then the next day, you’ll go actually and metaphorically a bit further, so then you try harder and find out what being alive is like.
Go and talk to a stranger today; go and adopt a cat; try cross-dressing; walk around your house naked; volunteer – not naked; read an inspirational blog; write an inspirational blog; but ask yourself today right now, when was the last time that you did something for the first time?
My vision is to one day deliver my own inspiring Ted talk about Criticality and Wellness Training.
Why Support WUWE?
If you know people who are still very much focused on the problem-ridden mainstream narrative, my posts on criticality raise awareness that this reality is just a story we are given.
If you know people who are reacting to this narrative with anger, fear, depression or despair, my posts on wellness show the solution-focused alternative story we can focus on instead.
My inspirational blog documents my nomadic journey as I humbly teach what I’ve learnt about health, happiness and well-being (wellness), as I myself continue to develop, learn and grow.
My mission is to build an academic, science-supported, online educational platform that anyone can use to increase health and happiness, and to take Wake Up World Education (WUWE) global.
If this mission resonates with you, I would love your support.
