Signal – Free Encrypted Messenger
Signal is the world’s most secure FREE instant messaging, video and voice (VoIP) calling service developed by Open Whisper Systems, whose protocol is also used by WhatsApp to encrypt messages and calls.
Unlike WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, Signal is engineered by a team passionate about no ads, no affiliate marketers and no tracking.
The Open Whispers Systems team started this project because they passionately believe in the importance of the public’s right to privacy.
You can make crystal-clear voice and video calls, and send high-quality group, text, voice, video, document, and picture messages anywhere in the world. You can also keep your chat history tidy by setting messages to disappear.
Their code is open source, and Open Whisper Systems is trusted by Edward Snowdon and Laura Poitras, one of the journalists who won George Polk Awards in journalism for meeting with Snowdon in 2013 and helping publish his leaks for The Gaurdian and Washington Post on the secret mass collection of the general public’s private data by governments.
Signal is available FREE for Android, iPhone and on desktop, funded by grants and user donations, and designed to always put users first.
Discussion Point: Is supporting no ads, no affiliate marketers and no tracking online important?
